How Lightning Came
A long, long time ago when there was no lightning, there was a man named Great Evil One. He wanted to kill the mighty Thunder Bird who brings rain to the land because Thunder Bird never came to his tribe in the desert.
It took many moons for Great Evil One to find Thunder Bird. He went over hills and grass lands. He finally found Thunder Bird. He sneaked up very slowly and fired his arrow, but he missed. With the blink of an eye Thunder Bird was gone, but Great Evil One did not give up.
When Great Evil One looked for Thunder Bird again, it was easy: Thunder Bird left a blue path in the sky. Great Evil One followed Thunder Bird’s path, but he had to hurry because the blue path would disappear after a short time.
It was a rainy night when he found Thunder Bird for the second time. Thunder Bird was sitting on a small bush. Great Evil One fired his arrow. It barely hit Thunder Bird, but made a yellow jig-jagged line on Thunder Bird’s back. From the jig-jag on Thunder Bird’s back a yellow beam of light came out and touched the clouds. The beam turned off with a flash.
A moment later a spark came down from the clouds and destroyed the rest of Great Evil One’s arrows. Then another spark from the clouds came down and struck Great Evil One dead. Thunder Bird roared.
To this day lightning still occurs when someone shows hatred.
