Mourning Doves diet on seeds, roughly 12 to 20 percent of their body weight per day.  They store the seeds they find in their crop until its full waiting to digest the seeds until they find a safe perch.   Unlike humans, they can stay hydrated on brackish water which has up to almost half the salinity of sea water.  Cornell Lab of Ornithology states that The oldest known Mourning Dove was 31 years 4 months old.
