Western Scrub-Jay

((Aphelocoma californica)
  ORDER: PASSERIFORMES  l   FAMILY: CORVIDAE

~ May 17, 2009
Palos Verdes, CA

The Western Scrub-Jay's crestless head distinguishes it from Blue Jays and Stellar Jays.  These extremely vocal birds like to cause mischief by taking seeds or acorns from other birds.  They even check around to see that other jays aren't looking before hiding their own seeds.
